This is an eight-class course to teach the practice of Vipassanā Meditation. Each class is one hour.

Concentration (Samatha) Meditation

Concentration practice must come first. Samatha uses one-pointed concentration of the breath to develop the mind’s inherent stability, clarity and strength. Through this practice, we learn to calm the mind.

These first four classes are designed to teach you concentration meditation. At the completion of these four classes, you will have the knowledge and experience to maintain an effective concentration meditation practice.

  1. Introduction to Concentration Meditation

  2. Progressive Stages of Concentration Meditation/Buddhism 101

  3. Effects and Hindrances of Concentration Meditation

  4. Deepening Concentration Practice/Chakras and Auras

Insight (Vipassanā) Meditation

Insight meditation is an extension of concentration practice, called Vipassanā, meaning “to clear the mind.” After we have learned to calm the mind with concentration meditation, we can learn to cultivate moment-to-moment awareness and gain insights into our inner self.

Vipassanā Meditation is the oldest of Buddhist practices, coming directly from the Satipatthana Suttra, a discourse attributed to the Buddha himself. It is a direct and gradual cultivation of mindfulness/awareness, and proceeds piece by piece over a period of years in which our attention is directed to an intense examination of our existence. With this practice, we come to understand the truths about non-ego, emptiness, nothingness, peacefulness and joyfulness by seeing our issues and letting them go.

These last four classes teach you Insight (Vipassanā) Meditation.

  1. Vipassanā Meditation, Introduction to Insight Practice

  2. Vipassanā Meditation and Mindfulness

  3. Vipassanā Meditation/Energy Healing Practices

  4. Challenges that arise with Vipassanā Practice

Margaret teaches Vipassanā Meditation Classes in two formats: individual, and group (created by a group of colleagues or friends).

The violence and destruction in the world call for our attention and engagement now.

I am in agreement with the information shared in this zine about genocide in Gaza and appreciate

the powerful and thoughtful leadership of these authors.

We all know there are many challenges and many issues facing the planet and the people on the planet. You may choose to act locally or globally, and I hope you do. I have done both.

Many countries continue to experience political and neocolonial oppression, dealing with authoritarian rule, economic exploitation, and foreign influence that hinders their self-determination and development. Some of the most affected countries are: Palestine, Western Sahara, Myanmar (Burma), Kashmir (India-Pakistan Dispute), Tibet (China), Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Haiti, Indigenous Communities in the Americas, African Nations Facing Neocolonialism - Countries such as Mali, Niger, and Chad.

These all face various forms of political and colonial oppression, whether through direct occupation, economic exploitation, or external political interference. Please watch non - commercial news sources to follow these regions and nations - talk about these issues, boycott companies that support their exploitation, and give your support.

Please also pay attention, be aware and provide your support and efforts to mitigate global warming. That is of course another vast issue and we know there are many resources for how we can help.
